Choice can be defined as the "act of choosing; selection. The power,
right, or liberty to choose; option. One that is chosen."
As
elected representatives of the People, government Ministers and persons
in key positions have a duty of care to ensure that any decisions made
are in the best interests of both the State of South Australia and the
Communities that comprise the State.
Unless we speak out and our
voices heard there arises a default evolution which displaces the needs
of the People. Unless we speak out how can our elected members know what
we want? The letter below from Stefanie Birkholz highlights the
desire for proper Government/Public consultation on the issue of water
fluoridation.
To date SA Health has not shown face.
They have repeatedly referred to an 8 July 2005 State Oral Health Plan
Public Consultation Meeting which was ill advertised and the submissions
that were received from the few parties that went were not the type of
submissions that SA Health claimed endorsed water fluoridation. The
Grant Council certainly did not, but called for better regional dental
support and education. Sharon's letter highlights the similar need for better support and education. These two factors alone combined
with a healthy diet with sugary products consumed in moderation will far
outweigh any minor benefits gained from the fluoridation of water
supplies. View
